Description
CONDUCTING DETAILED FEASIBILITY STUDY, DETAILED DESIGN AND PREPARING TENDER DOCUMENTS AND CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISION SERVICES ETC. FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONSTRUCTION OF 2ND BHAIRAB AND 2ND TITAS RAILWAY BRIDGES
To eliminate the bottleneck in Dhaka-Chittagong railway communication, the government had planned for doubling the entire Dhaka-Chittagong corridor. ADB is funding for 64 km Tongi-Bhairab Bazar section whereas JICA is funding for 61 km Laksam-Chinki Astana. ADB is also funding for Feasibility Study and Detailed Design and subsequent construction supervision for 71 km double tracking of Akhaura-Laksam section. The implementation of above three (3) projects aims to improve and develop railway communication by double tracking the entire Dhaka-Chittagong corridor except the existing single tracked Bhairab Bridge over the river Meghna and the Titas Bridge over the river Titas with missing links between Bhairab Bazar-Ashugonj (4.00 km) and Akhaura Block Hut-Akhaura Junction (2.25 km). This corridor will become Trans Asian Railway (TAR) route as well as domestic & regional railway traffic. The situation inevitably necessitates construction of 2nd Railway bridge over the river Meghna & Titas along with approach rail lines and other ancillary services. The project components are as follows:
