The economic development trend in Bangladesh has been moving forward at a rapid pace. The export and import among other plays a pivotal role in it’s economy. But the existing infrastructure including roads and efficient gateway port is not plenty enough in response to the requirement. As a part of supporting overwhelming export-import trade, the government has taken initiative for the development of a new port at Matarbari, Cox’s Bazar in addition to it’s two existing ports i.e. Mongla and Chittagong sea port. The efficient performance of port is heavily interrelated with its provision of connecting road. To support the port operation and alleviate the traffic congestion, the Government of Bangladesh has received a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to finance the Matarbari Port Development Project which is to construct a new port in Matarbari, Cox’ Bazar district as well as the access road connecting to the port to ensure efficient freight movement.
