Duration: April, 1989-March, 1997 Rural roads and markets improvement and maintenance project


The project comprised:
– Construction of 500 km. of Type-B feeder roads in the old districts of Rajshahi, Pabna and Bogra
– Maintenance of these roads for full project period
– Construction of about 3700 running meters of structures (culverts and small bridges) on rural roads
– Improvement of physical facilities of one market in each of 65 Upazilas (Sub-districts)


– Engineering survey and soil investigation
– Hydrological investigation
– Economic evaluation of project
– Preliminary and detailed design of roads, markets and bridges
– Evaluation and conduct of training programmes
– Investigation survey and detailed design of bridges and culverts
– Evaluation of maintenance programme and maintenance manual
– Construction supervision
– Training of LGED personnel
– Environmental and Resettlement issues, etc.
